1st Letter to Parent
Dear Parents,
This letter is to inform you of a fund raiser being conducted at school. Loops for Life is a Cystic Fibrosis Fund Raiser founded by 10 year old Emma Krug. Emma is a 5th grade student at Florence Rideout Elementary School in Wilton, New Hampshire. Emma came up with this project because her younger brother Harry has Cystic Fibrosis. Emma’s goal is to raise money and create beautiful potholders with students to sell at charity events around New England.
Emma shared and discussed her project with several influential folks including her art teacher Ms. Luter; her favorite aunt Mrs. Graceffa, a first grade teacher at the Oakdale School; and Wilton’s PTO. Emma’s initiative was shared with the principals of Oakdale and Florence Rideout Elementary Schools and it has blossomed into a heartwarming event which your child has been asked to be a part of.
The students from both elementary schools will make potholders from Friendly Loom Products of Harrisville Designs. Potholder creations allow children to discover the basic techniques of weaving. It’s a quiet activity that encourages concentration and gives children a sense of accomplishment as they create their designs. Weaving helps children understand spatial concepts while developing fine motor control and building self-confidence.
The Harrisville product being used for Loops for Life potholders are made from 100% repurposed cotton. The certified recycled cotton blend loops are made from fabric scraps that would otherwise end up in landfills. Using recycled yarns save an average of 20 million pounds of new cotton from being planted every year. In addition to the benefit of using a recycled product, the loops are also certified as non-toxic according to the Oeko-Tex Standard 100. You can feel good about your child using this product.
The potholders created by your student will be sold for $5.00 each at select retail locations and fund raising events throughout New England. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In addition to the fun of making potholders, students will learn about volunteer efforts. The simple act of offering time, skills, and enthusiasm will positively impact the lives of others, as well as their own.
